Hey guys! I’ve had an extremely busy month of traveling to India & Hong Kong. Our trip to India was primarily to attend weddings and visit family so we had a lot of social obligations and then Hong Kong was an excuse to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Both these countries are so vibrant and fast paced that I feel re-energized and am full of ideas from our travels for Remaking Ivy!

Between the social commitments and eating all that yummy Indian food, I took the time to shop for home decor products in India and I am so glad I did!! Below, I list my favourite (super affordable to mid-expensive) stores to buy quirky, boho, vintage and wonderful home-ware products. If you ever visit in India, don’t forget to check out these beautiful bazaars & stores-  I promise you won’t leave empty-handed!

Johari Bazaar- Jaipur

Rajasthan’s capital city, Jaipur, also known as the Pink City is often regarded as a shopper’s paradise and rightly so! Johari Bazaar; situated in the heart of the city is the oldest street market in Jaipur consisting of innumerable stores selling fabrics, textiles, accessories to traditional Rajasthani footwear (juttis), jewellery, hand-made Jaipuri quilts, copper crockery and everything in between!

This market is extremely busy and bargaining is expected as prices can be lowered by almost 40-70 percent so never pay the first price that you are quoted, even if shops have “fixed rate” sign boards. This market is not your typical store when looking for home decor items however it is ideal when looking for vintage items, antiques and beautiful fabrics. I found that the fabrics here were extremely affordable and ranged from simple bold colors to elaborate patterns, tie-dye and embroidery work which is ideal for making your own pillow covers, throw cushion covers etc. Moreover, you are sure to find beautiful bohemian looking quilts, rugs, bedspreads, vases and accessories for your home/ patio for less than half the price than what you would pay in western countries!

Rani Ka Hazira Bazaar- Ahemdabad 

Rani Ka Hazira is an area in the bustling city of Ahemdabad in Gujarat where the tombs of past Gujarat sultanate rulers are placed. The area around the tombs has grown extensively in recent years and become a market hub for women’s accessories, traditional Gujarati (garba) clothing and yep! you guessed it- more vintage/boho chic items for homes!

I found the collection of home items even larger than Jaipur’s Johari Bazaar. Unfortunately, I only had half a day in Gujarat so I didn’t get a chance to explore the whole market, but still managed to find many quirky items.

This bazaar is even crazier and busier than Jaipur’s markets. On first glance, it looks almost like Mumbai’s Crawford Market with street vendors selling toys, shoes, knick-knacks etc. However, venture deeper into the market along narrow alleyways and you will find a huge number of stores specializing in traditional (bandhni) fabrics, women’s clothing and a whole range of quirky items from decorated umbrellas, wall hangings, embroidered throw pillow covers, rugs and my favorite- traditional pouf inserts! In terms of prices, I found the shopkeepers really difficult to bargain with (they really did mean “fixed rates” in these stores!) so while it is worth trying to haggle, don’t waste a lot of time as prices are not super expensive anyway.

India Circus by Krsnaa Mehta

India Circus has to be one of my favourite home decor stores. They offer contemporary, chic and affordable home decor and personal accessory products that draw inspiration from Opulent Royal Indian to Quirky Street-chai. Their products are fun, vibrant and are sure to brighten up any home. From the moment you step into their store, you are drawn in towards the bold patterns, funky decor and a limitless collection of throw pillows, laptop sleeves, eclectic dinnerware and rich wallpapers.

The biggest advantage is that they have an online store which ships worldwide so you don’t even need to travel to India to buy their wonderful collection of home decor items! Anyway, I’ll just let the pictures do the talking for this amazing store!

The Bombay Store-Mumbai

The Bombay Store, a highly recommended tourist shopping destination, is one of the oldest and most popular lifestyle stores in Mumbai. Similar to Krsnaa Mehta’s India Circus, their products are quintessentially Indian but with a larger focus on more traditional, artistic and contemporary looking products. They specialize in beautiful pashminas, antique (deity) statues, brass and sandalwood stone work, copper bells for home mandirs (temples), Jaipuri rugs and incense stick fragrances to sweet smelling candles.

My favorite from this store is their beautiful range of brass Buddha and Ganesha statues. They are made of brass turquoise and other coral stones making them look vibrant and absolutely stunning as a decor piece in any home.

Good Earth India 

Good Earth India is a stylish luxury brand that reflect the finest of Indian handicrafts, craftsmanship and textiles into their home-ware products. Most of their products are inspired from Indian heritage, nature and history. A closer look at their website shows how passionate the company is to curate the most exquisite products and there is no doubt that using any of their products from bed linen, dinnerware to bath accessories will add a touch of tasteful elegance into your home!
